Topics of Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems

The winter semester 2012/2013 I am teaching, with M. Kell, the graduate course Topics of Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems at the MPI-MiS. The course is an introduction to Ergodic Theory with emphasis on its relationship with differentiable dynamical systems, what may also be called differentiable ergodic theory. As most mathematical disciplines, it also has its main object of study. In the case of differentiable ergodic theory this main object is the pair: (dynamical system, invariant measure). Along the course, we shall see how to explore properties of invariant measures in order to obtain conclusions regarding stability and asymptotic behaviour of the dynamics, paying particular attention to conceptual meaning of the results. Have a look at a more detailed description of the course. See also the page of our reading seminar on Dynamics, where we shall keep a up to date description of the lectures.
