Título: Trigonal curves on abelian varieties

Abstract: It is easy to show that the only hyperelliptic deformations of a hyperelliptic curve in an abelian variety are translations. I will give an elementary proof that a similar statement holds for trigonal curves. Along the way, we will prove that a genus 3 theta divisor does not admit a degree 3 dominant rational map to P^2.
