Short Bio:
I'm a Brazilian applied mathematician working as an associate professor in the School of Applied Sciences (FCA) at Univesity of Campinas (UNICAMP), in Limeira, Brazil. I received a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Campinas (2009) and a degree in Mathematics from the University of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil (1999). In 2016, I received the UNICAMP Teacher Recognition Award and, in 2018, I was honored at the Limeira City Council with the title of Innovative University Professor. From 2013 and 2017 I coordinated the Professional Master's Degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics at IMECC-UNICAMP and from 2017 and 2021 I coordinated the Regional Administration of the UNICAMP Campuses of Limeira and Piracicaba (SAR). Since 2017, I have been part of the board of the Brazilian Society for Operational Research (SOBRAPO) and currently I serve as the 2nd vice president of this Society. I'm also member of the Laboratory of Data Analysis and Decision Aiding (LAD2/CPO) and I have actively collaborated, since the beginning, in the design and structuring of the Brazilian Institute of Data Science (BI0S).
Research:
My research interests orbit around the intersection of two broad areas: data science and operations research. I have been working on problems involving optimization, machine learning, multicriteria decision and preference modeling. I have also worked in the field of information theory, particularly in geometric aspects involving lattices and spherical codes. In general, I consider myself an applied mathematician excited to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects that can impact society.
Machine Learning (ML):
ML methods for tabular data
Fair and Interpretable ML
Applications: medicine, finance, industry.
Multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA):
Preference modeling using MCDA methods
Unsupervised (data-driven) approaches for MCDA
Missing data in decision analysis
Applications: sport sciences, finance, supplier selection, industry, and government decision aiding.
Optimization:
Matrix completion: methods and applications
Heuristics for global optimization
Linear and nonlinear programming
Applications: distance geometry, sports, logistics, industry.
